A devastating crash occurred at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, claiming the life of an Indian Air Force pilot flying the Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA Mk-1). The incident occurred during an aerial display, with visuals showing the indigenous fighter jet hitting the ground and erupting into a fireball. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has confirmed the pilot's fatal injuries and expressed deep regret for the loss of life. A court of inquiry has been constituted to investigate the cause of the accident, which marks the second recorded crash of an LCA. This incident comes as the IAF prepares to induct an advanced variant of the aircraft, the LCA Mk-1A. The Tejas aircraft had taken part in the Bharat Shakti tri-services exercise at the Pokhran firing range before the crash. The LCA Mk-1 had been inducted into the IAF in July 2016 and currently operates two squadrons. The aircraft involved in the crash belonged to the Mk-1 fleet, which is one of the first variants of the LCA. The Dubai Air Show, marking its 40th anniversary, is an annual event that brings together industry professionals from around the world. The show features leading aerospace firms, including Ombardier, Dassault Aviation, and Airbus, and had attracted visitors from 150 countries before the tragic incident.
