India's Civil Aviation Ministry has ordered IndiGo to reduce its operations by 10% following a string of flight cancellations. The disruptions, which entered their eighth consecutive day on Tuesday, have seen over 400 flights cancelled across major cities, with Delhi and Bengaluru being the worst-affected. IndiGo's CEO Pieter Elbers was summoned by the Civil Aviation Ministry to provide an update on the situation. In a video statement, Elbers apologized for the inconvenience caused to passengers and assured that the airline's operations are stable. However, the Ministry expressed concerns over IndiGo's inability to operate its winter and summer schedules efficiently. The Ministry's order comes after nearly 5,000 flights have been cancelled since the mass cancellations began. Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the decision to curtail IndiGo's operations will help stabilize the airline's operations and reduce cancellations. The airline will continue to cover all its destinations as before. IndiGo has promised to restore its network and flights on a war footing, with CEO Pieter Elbers assuring that the airline is back on its feet. The airline has also processed refunds for lakhs of customers and delivered most of the stuck bags. In a statement, IndiGo announced that it plans to operate nearly 1,900 flights on Wednesday, December 10. The airline has also optimized its operations and restored its on-time performance to normal levels. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over the inconvenience caused to passengers, urging the government to correct the system without harassing people. The Ministry's order is expected to bring some relief to passengers and stabilize IndiGo's operations.
