The Indian Navy's sail training ship INS Sudarshini set sail on January 20, marking the beginning of a 10-month transoceanic expedition, Lokayan 26. This journey, covering over 22,000 nautical miles and 18 foreign ports across 13 countries, showcases India's rich maritime heritage and embodies the vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - a world where all nations are one family. The ship will participate in prestigious international tall-ship events, such as Escale a Sète in France and SAIL 250 in New York, USA, proudly representing India's seafaring legacy and maritime traditions. During the voyage, more than 200 Indian Navy and Coast Guard trainees will undergo intensive sail training, gaining valuable experience in long-range ocean navigation and traditional seamanship. This deployment will expose the trainees to the nuances of life onboard a tall ship, providing opportunities for interaction with trainees from other navies and fostering professional exchange and friendship. INS Sudarshini will also engage in training interactions and maritime partnership engagements with visiting countries, strengthening maritime cooperation and advancing the vision of MAHASAGAR. As a powerful symbol of cultural diplomacy, Lokayan 26 reaffirms the Indian Navy's commitment to building bridges of cooperation and mutual trust across nations. With over 140,000 nautical miles covered to date, INS Sudarshini continues to serve as a beacon of India's maritime strength, professionalism, and goodwill on the global stage.
