In a heartwarming display of solidarity, a neighbor in Jammu has come forward to help a social media journalist whose home was demolished by the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) on Thursday. Kuldeep Kumar, who owns a five-marla plot in the Transport Nagar area, has offered to gift the land to journalist Arfaz Ahmad Daing so that he can rebuild his house. Kumar, accompanied by his daughter, made the announcement in a video that went viral on social media. He expressed his willingness to assist Daing in the construction process as well. The JDA, along with the police, had demolished Daing's house, citing ongoing efforts to clear encroachments from its land across Jammu. The demolition has sparked a political controversy, with a blame game erupting between the BJP and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Abdullah accused the lieutenant governor's administration of using bulldozers for politically motivated campaigns to 'malign' the elected government. He claimed that officers appointed by Raj Bhawan without seeking permission from the elected government were behind the demolition. On the other hand, former Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina termed the demolition 'selective' and assured full support to the residents. Raina praised Kumar's gesture as a symbol of Jammu and Kashmir's harmony and denied any role of the LG's administration in the demolition drive. The incident has highlighted the need for a more nuanced approach to addressing encroachments and ensuring the rights of citizens, including journalists who speak truth to power.
