The Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Kerala has taken actor Jayaram into custody for questioning in connection with the alleged theft of gold assets from the Sabarimala temple. The SIT, probing the case, visited Jayaram's residence in Chennai and asked him about his dealings with Unnikrishnan Potty, the first accused in the case. Potty, a former junior priest at the temple, was arrested in November and is currently the main suspect in the gold theft. According to officials, Jayaram had previously admitted to participating in poojas at his home and at Smart Creations in Chennai, where gold artefacts from the temple were stored for 'replating'. The SIT has been investigating Jayaram's relationship with Potty, who allegedly sponsored the 'replating' of the gold artefacts. The team also asked Jayaram about the door frames of the temple's sanctum, which were temporarily placed in his residence while being transported from Chennai to Kerala. Jayaram has reportedly told the SIT that he met Potty during his annual visits to the Sabarimala temple, where Potty used to serve as a junior priest. However, he claimed to be unaware of any illicit dealings involving Potty and the temple's gold assets. Potty's arrest in November has raised concerns that the SIT may not be able to file a charge sheet within the 90-day deadline, potentially leading to his release on statutory bail.
