Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a thorough on-site inspection of the under-construction Noida International Airport at Jewar, located about 75 kilometers from Delhi. The visit, which took place on Thursday, was part of the state government's efforts to fast-track the project's completion. The airport, being developed under a public-private partnership, is expected to start operations by the end of 2025, as per the latest information available. However, the project still faces a significant hurdle - receiving its aerodrome license. The license is pending, and multiple inspections are currently underway to ensure the airport meets the required security and operational standards. During the inspection, Adityanath emphasized the importance of meeting the highest standards of quality in completing the remaining security and operational requirements. The airport's safety and security arrangements, including screening systems, surveillance cameras, and access-control points, have been thoroughly examined by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). The airport must meet several requirements before receiving the license, including certified runway strength, compliant safety areas, functional taxiways and aprons, adequate lighting and navigational aids, and updated meteorological and aeronautical data. Once the license is granted, the private concessionaire, along with Air India, Akasa Air, and IndiGo, will decide when operations can begin. However, the formal inauguration will depend on the availability of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Construction work on the airport is in its final stages, with the roofing of the passenger terminal completed and multiple technical trials underway. The greenfield airport is being developed on 1,300 hectares of land, with one runway and a terminal building. While phase one is expected to be operational by the end of 2025, the official launch date remains to be announced. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has completed the second round of flight calibration tests, and the Airports Authority of India has overseen the installation of communication, navigation, and surveillance/air traffic management systems. BCAS had earlier cleared the airport's security preparedness, and the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) is working to complete all pending compliance work.
