Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra was among several leaders detained by police on Tuesday as a large protest march, led by senior BJP figures and hundreds of farmers, was halted near the state legislature's winter session in Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. The demonstration aimed to draw attention to the administration's failure to address the concerns of sugarcane and maize growers, who are facing mounting pressure. The protest was sparked by the state government's inaction, with BJP leaders criticizing Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar for urging them to raise regional concerns through legislative debate rather than street protests. 'Fixing the FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) is the Centre's responsibility, but nothing stops the State from announcing a price above the FRP,' Vijayendra said, highlighting Karnataka's significant role as a sugarcane producer and its substantial revenue from the crop. The BJP leaders' actions are a reflection of their frustration with the state government's handling of the issue, which has left farmers struggling to cope with the economic pressure.
