The leadership tussle in Karnataka intensified on Saturday as Home Minister G Parameshwara threw his hat into the ring, claiming that some people want him to be the next Chief Minister. Speaking to ANI, Parameshwara stated that the aspirations of the people cannot be ignored, and it's up to the Congress high command in Delhi to resolve the issue. Parameshwara's statement comes as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar held a breakfast meeting to try and resolve the crisis. Shivakumar is pushing for a leadership change, citing a 'secret agreement' among senior leaders that he should take over as CM after 2.5 years. Siddaramaiah has maintained his stance, saying he will abide by the party's decision. Meanwhile, Shivakumar will travel to Delhi to meet the party's high command, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. The Congress is likely to discuss the crisis with central leaders after the party's strategy group meeting ahead of the winter session of Parliament on November 30. The tussle has been fueled by the 'power-sharing agreement' of 2023 between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, with each side's loyalists lobbying for their leader's claim to the top post. Parameshwara's entry into the fray has added a new dimension to the crisis, which is expected to be resolved by the high command soon.
