A leadership crisis is brewing in Karnataka, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar engaging in a verbal sparring match over promises and power. The tension was sparked by Shivakumar's cryptic post on X, claiming that 'word power is world power.' This was seen as a reference to his earlier promise to step down as deputy CM after two-and-a-half years, which is now due. Siddaramaiah responded by saying that 'a word is not power unless it betters the world for the people.' He also asserted that he will continue to serve as CM for the full five-year term, citing his party's mandate and the welfare schemes he has implemented. Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has announced plans to convene a meeting to address the leadership issue and end the confusion. The meeting, which will also include Rahul Gandhi, is expected to be held in Delhi on November 29. Shivakumar has said that he and the CM will attend the meeting if summoned. The party's high command is expected to make a decision on the leadership issue soon. Meanwhile, home minister G Parameshwara has expressed his willingness to accept Shivakumar as CM if the party decides so. The crisis has left the party in a state of uncertainty, with the outcome of the meeting hanging in the balance.
