The opposition leader in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, has launched a scathing attack on the state's Congress government, accusing it of corruption, administrative paralysis, and using the Governor's address to wage a political battle with the Centre. Ashoka claimed that the Siddaramaiah-led government has sacrificed the interests and prestige of the state in various matters to prioritize its own political interests and appease the high command. He also alleged that the government has misrepresented facts in the Governor's address and tried to cover up corruption. The opposition leader pointed to several scandals that have emerged in the state, including allegations of bribery and corruption in the Urban Development Department. He also highlighted the government's failure to implement development projects, citing a ₹37,370 crore unpaid bills to contractors as an example. Ashoka criticized the government's decision to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South district, saying it was a politically motivated move to appease a particular section of the population. He also accused the government of being uncomfortable with the name 'Ram' in the Centre's new rural employment law. The opposition leader's comments come after the Governor's address to the Assembly was met with controversy, with the Governor refusing to read out a portion of the address that was critical of the Centre. Ashoka said that the government's actions were an attempt to divert attention from its own failures and use the legislature for partisan purposes.
