The Karnataka state government has defended its proposed Hate Speech and Hate Crimes Prevention Bill 2025, which it claims aims to maintain public order and prevent conflicts. The Bill, introduced in the Assembly on December 10, has sparked heated debate, with the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party accusing the Congress government of using the legislation to silence dissent. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar dismissed these allegations, saying the law is designed to prevent hatred and conflicts rather than being a tool for politics. "We live in a civilized society, and there should be no hatred," he said. "The law will be beneficial to the state and society.
