A massive landslide in north Kashmir's Baramulla district has brought the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway to a grinding halt, cutting off vital traffic routes. According to reports, the landslide occurred near the Eco Park area on the Uri subdivision stretch of the highway, leaving no casualties or injuries so far. Meanwhile, the region is experiencing a prolonged spell of snowfall, with tourist hotspots Gulmarg and Sonamarg receiving significant snowfall. Gulmarg recorded 2-3 inches of snow, while Sonamarg received 5-6 inches. The Meteorological Department has forecast no major western disturbances in the region for the next 20 days, but the existing snowfall has caused disruptions on the highway leading to Gulmarg, stranding several vehicles. The Mughal Road, connecting south Kashmir with Poonch and Rajouri districts, has been closed due to the inclement weather. As a precautionary measure, the Simthan Road linking Anantnag with Kishtwar and Doda districts has also been shut. Rainfall was reported in several parts of Kashmir, with Sadna Top in Kupwara district receiving 5-6 inches of fresh snow and Tulail in Gurez receiving 9-12 inches. The MeT office in Srinagar has predicted cloudy weather with light rain or snow at scattered places. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night, which was 4.6 degrees above the seasonal average. Gulmarg remained the coldest place in the region, with the mercury settling at minus 5.5 degrees Celsius.
