A special court in Delhi has convicted Kashmiri separatist Asiya Andrabi and two others for their roles in a terrorist organisation. Andrabi, the founder of the all-women group Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM), was arrested in 2018 and charged under the UAPA for conspiring to commit terrorist acts, being a member of a terrorist organisation, and providing support to such groups. The court found them guilty of conspiracy and membership in a terrorist organisation under the UAPA, as well as other charges under the IPC. The case will now be heard on January 17 to determine the quantum of sentence, which could potentially exceed life imprisonment. Andrabi and her associates were accused of plotting to wage war against the country and promoting enmity between different communities. The case against them was registered by the NIA in 2018 after the Union Home Ministry received information about their alleged activities. Andrabi has been behind bars since 2018 after being arrested for planning a large-scale demonstration and stone-pelting in Anantnag.
