Kerala Congress (M) Chairman Jose K Mani confirmed on Friday that his party will remain with the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) for the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking after a key party meeting in Kottayam, Jose ruled out joining the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), citing the LDF's warm welcome in 2020 and its commitment to the alliance. The speculation surrounding a possible UDF return was dismissed by Jose, who emphasized that the party's stance had not changed. He attributed the speculation to external factors and stated that KC(M) is not prone to frequent changes in its alliance. KC(M), which joined the LDF in 2020 after leaving the UDF due to a long-standing feud, now aims to contest more Assembly seats. In the 2021 polls, the party contested 12 seats and secured five victories. This time, Jose hopes to increase the number of seats by one or two, depending on discussions with the LDF. The party, which holds significant influence among Catholics and farmers in central Kerala, is confident about its decision to stay with the LDF. As the Assembly elections approach, KC(M) is set to negotiate with the LDF to secure more seats for its candidates.
