A Kerala court will deliver its verdict in the 2017 kidnapping and sexual assault case of a Malayalam actress on December 8. The case involves eight accused, including actor Dileep, who faces charges of conspiracy and kidnapping. The trial, which began eight years ago, has been marred by disruptions and delays, including multiple reminders from the Supreme Court to expedite the proceedings. The case centers around the kidnapping and rape of a woman actor in a moving car near Kochi in 2017. The accused, led by Sunil Kumar, allegedly videographed the assault. Dileep, who was arrested in 2017, claims the allegations against him are baseless. However, witnesses, including director Balachandra Kumar, have testified against him, claiming he conspired to endanger the lives of police officers. The trial involved over 1,700 documents and 261 witnesses, many of whom turned hostile. The court considered the case's sensitivity and conducted the proceedings in-camera. The verdict, set to be pronounced by Principal Sessions Judge Honey M Varghese, will bring closure to a case that has dragged on for years.
