A woman has filed a formal complaint against suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, alleging that the legislator coerced her into terminating her pregnancy and issued verbal threats. This is the first time a woman has come forward to make a formal complaint against Mamkootathil, who was suspended from the Congress party in August over allegations of inappropriate behavior towards women. According to sources, the complainant met with the Chief Minister at his office in Thiruvananthapuram, accompanied by a family member. The complaint was handed over to the state police chief Ravada Chandrasekhar, and Crime Branch ADGP H Venkatesh has indicated that an FIR will be filed and the complainant's statement will be recorded before a magistrate soon. This development comes after audio clips surfaced, in which a male voice, purportedly Mamkootathil's, is heard telling the woman to 'stop being dramatic' about her pregnancy and to visit the hospital. The woman is heard responding that he wanted the pregnancy in the first place and that he has 'changed a lot.' The audio clips had surfaced earlier in August as well, in which Mamkootathil is heard making threatening statements against the woman. Mamkootathil has been accused of sending obscene messages to actress Rini Ann George as well, but she has not filed a formal complaint. In response to the latest allegations, Mamkootathil wrote on Facebook, 'Truth alone triumphs. As long as I know that I have not done any wrong, I will fight legally. Everything will be proved in the court of justice and the court of people. Truth will win.' Mamkootathil became an MLA for the first time last year after winning a bye-election in Palakkad. He was forced to resign as the president of the Youth Congress in August following the allegations against him.
