A woman's detailed complaint to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday led to the registration of a serious FIR against Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil at the Valiyamala Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram. The FIR includes charges of sexual assault, forced abortion, physical assault, and other serious offenses. The alleged incidents occurred within the Nemom police limits, and the case has been transferred to the Nemom Police Station for further investigation. A special team will probe the matter, and a medical board will be constituted to examine the complainant's health condition. The police will also move the Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court to record the complainant's confidential statement. Mamkoottathil has gone into hiding, and police efforts to contact him have been unsuccessful. The case comes amid the circulation of audio clips and chat messages that surfaced before the woman officially complained. Mamkoottathil was suspended from the Congress in August after allegations mounted, and he had earlier resigned as Youth Congress state president following a misconduct scandal. The woman, who had initially met with the Chief Minister, had also approached the Crime Branch with audio evidence, which had led to a previous case being registered. Mamkoottathil was elected MLA in a bypoll last year and has been accused by several women and a transgender person of misconduct in the past.
