A harrowing incident unfolded in Kerala's Munnar on Friday when a crane malfunctioned, leaving four tourists, including two children, stranded 150 feet above ground at a sky-dining restaurant. The family, from Kozhikode, was trapped for over two hours before rescue personnel reached the scene around 4 pm. Fire officials revealed that the restaurant management failed to alert them, with nearby residents being the ones to inform authorities. Units from Munnar and Adimali were deployed to rescue the group, with the two children and their mother being brought down first, followed by their father and a restaurant staff member. The staff member, who underwent emergency training, credited her training for the lack of panic among the group. An investigation has been launched into the incident, with officials suspecting a hydraulic failure in the crane as the cause. The sky-dining restaurant, part of an adventure tourism project in the hill district, has come under scrutiny for its safety protocols.
