A dramatic rescue operation took place in Kerala's Anachal on Friday, where a 'sky-dining' restaurant, part of the state's adventure tourism initiative, became stuck 150 feet above ground after a crane malfunctioned. Four tourists, including two children, were stranded for over two hours before fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene around 4 pm. The rescue team, which included personnel climbing ropes, safely evacuated the four-member family, along with a female restaurant staff member. The tourists, from Kozhikode, were brought down in stages, with the two children and their mother being rescued first, followed by the father and the staff member. According to eyewitnesses, the tourists had been stuck since around 1.30 pm, and it was local residents who alerted the authorities. An investigation has revealed that the crane's hydraulics malfunctioned, causing the restaurant to become suspended in mid-air. The incident highlights a lack of coordination between the restaurant management and emergency services, as units from Munnar and Adimali were dispatched only after news reports emerged. The restaurant management also failed to inform the police, who were only alerted by local residents. The rescue operation, which concluded by 4.30 pm, is a testament to the bravery and quick thinking of the fire and rescue personnel involved. The 'sky-dining' experience, which offers a unique adventure tourism experience, has been suspended pending an investigation into the incident.
