Arunachal Pradesh's oldest hydroelectric project, the Kitpi small hydro electric station Phase-I in Tawang district, is nearing completion after a major upgrade. Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently shared an update on the ongoing test run of the plant, which was first built in 1977. The upgrade aimed to enhance the plant's safety and reliability, serving the local communities that rely on it for power. The new infrastructure will enable the plant to meet the growing electricity demand in the region. After a thorough inspection, Khandu announced that the test run is progressing well, and the upgraded project is expected to be dedicated to the public soon. Once operational, the Kitpi station will play a crucial role in meeting the district's everyday electricity needs. Arunachal Pradesh is one of several states focused on harnessing its hydroelectric potential, with the government working to strengthen local power infrastructure. According to a recent study by the Central Electricity Authority, the country's exploitable large hydro potential stands at 133.4 GW, with an identified pumped storage potential of 181.4 GW.
