A 50-year-old inmate, Suresh Verma, was found dead in his barrack at the Lakhimpur Kheri district jail on Friday morning. Verma, a resident of Madhaupurwa village, was brought to the jail on Thursday evening after being arrested for his alleged involvement in a recent murder case. According to officials, Verma was last seen entering the toilet in his barrack, but his body was discovered hanging from an iron angle several hours later. The incident has sparked allegations of foul play by Verma's family, who claim he was falsely implicated in the murder case. In response, BJP MLA Vinod Shankar Awasthi has assured the family of a thorough investigation and action if the allegations against the Dhaurahra police are found to be true. In a separate development, Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma has suspended the Station House Officer (SHO) of Dhaurahra and three other officers, pending a probe into the allegations. Circle Officer Shamsher Bahadur Singh has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. The exact cause of Verma's death is yet to be determined, with a post-mortem examination scheduled to be conducted.
