In a significant development for India's defence modernization, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded a contract to supply the Indian Army with the BvS10 Sindhu all-terrain vehicles. The contract is a result of a partnership between L&T and BAE Systems Hägglunds, the original manufacturer of the BvS10 platform. The BvS10 Sindhu, an upgraded version of the BvS10, is specifically designed to operate in India's diverse terrain and climate conditions, including high-altitude, desert, and amphibious environments. The vehicle has successfully completed rigorous trials, demonstrating its exceptional performance in both sea-level and high-altitude regions. The contract includes a comprehensive logistics support package for the initial deployment, maintenance, and life-cycle sustainment of the vehicles. The BvS10 Sindhu's unmatched mobility, flexibility, and performance in extreme climatic conditions make it an ideal choice for the Indian Army. 'This contract marks a significant milestone in India's defence landscape under the Make in India initiative,' said Arun Ramchandani, senior vice president and head of L&T's Precision Engineering & Systems. The vehicle is currently in service in several countries, including Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, and is also on order for the German Army. The partnership between L&T and BAE Systems Hägglunds is a testament to the company's commitment to local manufacturing and technology transfer under the Make in India initiative. With this contract, L&T has once again demonstrated its strengths in systems engineering and manufacturing of defence-critical requirements at an industrial scale.
