In a major relief operation, the last group of Indian citizens stranded in Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah were evacuated to India on Monday. The evacuation was carried out under 'Operation Sagar Bandhu', a coordinated effort by the Indian government to aid Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the devastating cyclone. According to the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, the stranded passengers were seen off by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha before boarding an Indian Air Force aircraft to Thiruvananthapuram. The departing passengers chanted 'Bharat Mata ki jai' as they prepared to leave, a heartwarming moment in the midst of the crisis. 'Operation Sagar Bandhu' has been instrumental in bringing relief to Sri Lanka, with the Indian Air Force delivering 21 tonnes of relief material, over 80 NDRF personnel, and 8 tonnes of equipment to Colombo. The operation has also seen the evacuation of several Indian citizens stuck in Sri Lanka, with commercial aircraft and the IAF continuing to facilitate their travel back home. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has been at the forefront of the relief efforts, with the Indian Air Force landing in Colombo on Sunday carrying disaster response supplies. The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka is also providing assistance to stranded Indian passengers, facilitating their swift travel back home. For those stranded in Sri Lanka, the Indian High Commission has set up an Emergency Help Desk, with details available on the High Commission's social media channels. The operation is a testament to India's commitment to aiding its citizens in times of need and supporting global efforts in disaster relief.
