Loan Repayment Row Turns Violent: 3 Arrested for Assaulting 62-Year-Old Man in Karnataka

In a shocking incident, three men have been arrested in Haveri district, Karnataka, for allegedly assaulting a 62-year-old man and his family over a loan repayment dispute. The accused, identified as Yogesh Sunagar, 27, Manoj Sunagar, 28, and Devaraj Taravanda, 26, all from Bommanahalli, were taken into custody on Friday. According to police, the incident occurred on November 25, when six men attacked the family of Jainulasab Babusab Tumbaragi, 62, while they were having dinner. The attackers, allegedly motivated by a loan repayment dispute, used a sickle to injure Gausamoddin Bakshusa, the victim's son. In his complaint, Jainulasab alleged that the attackers demanded a payment of ₹21,000, which he had to reluctantly pay after being threatened. The police have revealed that the accused were involved in a lucrative moneylending business, targeting vegetable vendors, street-side traders, and others in the village. The accused allegedly charged exorbitant interest rates and would harass borrowers who failed to make timely payments. Police sub-inspector Sampath stated that the investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the incident. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
