The Goa Police have accused Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, owners of the Romeo Lane restaurant chain, of misleading authorities investigating the December 6 nightclub fire in Arpora that claimed 25 lives. The brothers, who left for Phuket shortly after the blaze, have been in detention in Thailand and are expected to be deported soon. The police alleged that they showed no cooperation during the investigation and provided false information about their departure from India. According to the police, the Luthras left India on December 7, contradicting their claim that they departed on the night of the fire. The police also pointed out that the brothers had booked their Thailand flight while the fire was still being fought. The investigation into the fire has revealed several safety lapses, including the heavy use of flammable decor, lack of functional extinguishers and alarms, and a narrow access road that hindered fire engine access. The fire broke out during a musical night attended by nearly 100 people, with 25 people, including five tourists and 20 employees, losing their lives due to inhaling toxic smoke while trapped in the basement. The Luthras have filed a bail petition, claiming they are only licensees of the building where the nightclub operated and had no intention of evading authorities. However, the police have opposed their bail plea, citing their lack of cooperation and 'misleading' claims. The Delhi court has reserved orders on the bail plea, and a decision is expected to be announced later today.
