Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) chief Maulana Mahmood Madani's remarks on the alleged erosion of Muslim rights and the judiciary's independence have sparked a heated debate. Speaking at a JUH governing body meeting in Bhopal, Madani accused the government of orchestrating efforts to establish the supremacy of one group, citing instances of mob lynching, bulldozer actions, and the weakening of Muslim Waqf institutions. Madani also questioned the Supreme Court's impartiality, suggesting that its verdicts, including the Babri Masjid ruling, had created an impression that the court was acting under government pressure. He claimed that the court's duty is to uphold justice and maintain peace, and that it does not deserve the title of 'Supreme' if it fails to do so. The BJP has strongly condemned Madani's remarks, with national spokesperson Sambit Patra calling them 'divisive' and 'irresponsible.' Patra emphasized that 'Vande Mataram' is a national song that transcends religious boundaries and that Madani's comments were an attempt to create discord. He also criticized Madani's use of the term 'jihad,' which he said was contrary to the BJP's ideology of inclusivity and development. Patra appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo motu cognizance of Madani's statement, highlighting the court's role in upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all citizens. Madani's comments have sparked a fierce debate on the role of the judiciary and the government's interference in religious institutions, with the JUH vowing to continue its fight against what it sees as an erosion of Muslim rights.
