Madhya Pradesh is set to see a significant revision of its electoral rolls, with around 42 lakh voters potentially being removed following the completion of the first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The removal is based on deceased, duplicate, absent, and shifted voters, as per the Election Commission's guidelines. During the review, it was found that 8.40 lakh voters were deceased, 2.50 lakh had duplicate entries, and 8.40 lakh were marked as absent. Furthermore, over 22.50 lakh voters had shifted from their registered addresses, and around 28,000 failed to submit their forms. As a result, the enumeration forms of over 40 lakh voters were not submitted, raising concerns about their exclusion from the final electoral roll. However, officials have stated that the absent voters will be reverified in accordance with Election Commission guidelines. The first draft of the electoral roll post SIR is scheduled to be published on December 23, with a total of 5.74 crore voters in the state. The SIR process aims to ensure accuracy and transparency in the voter list, and officials are working diligently to complete the task.
