A personal assistant to Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Pankaja Munde has been arrested in connection with the alleged abetment of his wife's suicide. Dr. Gauri Palve, a dentist at a civic hospital, was found dead in her Worli flat on Saturday, nearly 10 months after their marriage. According to police, the couple had a history of domestic disputes, with Palve's family claiming that Garje had an extramarital affair and had threatened his wife. The Worli police registered an abetment of suicide case against Garje and two of his relatives based on a complaint filed by Palve's father. Garje was produced before a magistrate's court, which remanded him to police custody till November 27. The police are still awaiting the post-mortem report and claim that the other accused persons are absconding. Garje's lawyer argued that his client had cooperated fully with the investigation and requested a minimum police custody. However, the court decided to remand him to police custody till November 27. Palve's uncle has alleged that her death was not a suicide but a murder, and has demanded an in-camera post-mortem and a CBI probe into the case.
