The parents of late Ashoka Chakra awardee Major Mohit Sharma have taken the Delhi High Court to prevent the release of the upcoming film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh. The movie, directed by Aditya Dhar, is set to hit theaters on December 5. Major Sharma lost his life in a counter-terrorism operation in Kupwara in 2009. The petitioners argue that the film, as depicted in its trailers and promotional interviews, portrays their son's life and martyrdom without their consent or necessary approvals from the Indian Army. They claim this violates their right to privacy, dignity, and reputation under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. The family also expressed concern that the film's depiction of their son's operations, including undercover missions and human intelligence-based interventions, could compromise national security. They fear that the movie's release without clearance or oversight may provide adversaries with valuable information for propaganda or targeted threats. The petitioners emphasize that a decorated martyr's legacy should not be exploited or misrepresented without their consent. They seek a stay on the film's release until their concerns are addressed, ensuring the protection of their rights and dignity.
