Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh - Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has called on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to apologize and put an end to the 'naqab' controversy. The incident, which took place at the chief minister's secretariat in Patna, has sparked outrage after Kumar allegedly removed the veil from a woman doctor's face, sparking demands for an unconditional apology. The BSP leader has also raised concerns over a recent police parade in Bahraich, where the police deviated from established rules by offering a salute to a religious preacher. Mayawati has urged the Uttar Pradesh government to take the matter seriously and prevent a recurrence. In a statement on social media, Mayawati described the 'naqab' controversy as 'sad and unfortunate', and criticized the Bihar chief minister for not taking immediate action to resolve the issue. She also expressed concern over the Winter Session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, which she said failed to focus on issues of public interest and welfare. The BSP leader also took aim at the Winter Session of Parliament, which concluded without meaningful discussions on pressing national issues, including severe air pollution in Delhi. Mayawati has also expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh and the rise in 'anti-India activities', similar to Nepal. She urged the Centre to take cognisance of the developments and respond with a long-term policy approach. The BSP leader's comments come as Bangladesh has been gripped by violent protests and arson following the killing of a prominent youth leader.
