Meerut Farmers Unite, Submit Demands to Yogi Adityanath on Sugarcane Price, Rural Issues

In a bid to address pressing issues faced by sugarcane growers, a delegation of farmers from Meerut's Bharatiya Kisan Union submitted a 12-point memorandum to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Led by district president Anurag Chaudhary, the farmers expressed frustration with the recent hike in transportation charges, which has reduced their realised price despite an eight percent increase in the sugarcane support price. They demanded a rollback of the increased transportation rate and called for higher prices for rejected sugarcane varieties. The farmers also raised concerns over incomplete roads previously built by the sugarcane department, delayed school fee payments, and untimely sugarcane payments from mills. They requested a one-time settlement scheme for small rural industries, fee relief for children, and a ₹50 per quintal bonus due to lower production. Furthermore, the farmers sought timely funding for irrigation department roads, immediate transfer of promised subsidies on cooperative loans, and Ayushman cards for farmers and labourers in rural areas. They also asked for a reduction in mandatory family size, lowering the age limit, and the completion of an under-construction Ayurvedic hospital. If their demands are not met, the farmers have vowed to intensify their agitation. This move highlights the growing concerns of sugarcane growers in Meerut and the need for the government to address these pressing issues.
