Shillong, Meghalaya - An influential youth organisation, Hynniewtrep Youth Council, is calling for a fresh review of teachers wrongly labelled 'tainted' in the 2008-09 lower primary recruitment scandal. The Meghalaya High Court recently quashed all criminal proceedings against key accused, including a former minister, in the alleged 'white ink scam'. The recruitment exercise sparked state-wide controversy after allegations emerged of score sheet tampering using white ink to favour certain candidates. A CBI inquiry and subsequent state-level investigations identified a group of candidates as 'tainted', leading to job cancellations, terminations, and stalled careers for many. Despite multiple reviews and reinstatements over the years, those labelled 'tainted' continued to face disqualification and stigma. However, the Meghalaya High Court's recent ruling has cast doubt on the entire scandal. The court found no reliable evidence of manipulation, white-ink usage, or tampering in the scoresheets. Hynniewtrep Youth Council president Roy Kupar Synrem has urged the government to take immediate action in response to the court's findings. "The court has clearly stated that there is no evidence of manipulation, no proof of white-ink usage, and no signs of tampering in the scoresheets," he said. "If the very foundation of the allegations has collapsed, why must the affected teachers continue to suffer?
