West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose has condemned the chaos that erupted during Lionel Messi's recent event at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata, describing it as a 'management failure' and 'systemic failure'. The governor, who visited the venue on Sunday for a first-hand inspection, expressed his disappointment that the event 'hurt the sentiments of football lovers everywhere' and 'undermined the dignity of the common man'. The December 13 event turned violent and disorderly after Messi's brief appearance left many fans frustrated. Despite having traveled from far and wide and paying hefty sums for tickets, many were unable to catch a glimpse of their superstar. Bose has directed the state government to order a judicial inquiry, arrest those responsible, and refund ticket prices to spectators. The governor also emphasized that the stadium, which was damaged during the incident, is public property and action will be taken against those responsible, including officials who failed in their duties. Bose has promised to submit a 'pro-people report' on the incident to the Centre, highlighting the need for better planning and administration to prevent such incidents in the future. When asked if political functionaries seen at the event would be included in the inquiry, Bose said that he would first convey his observations to his 'constitutional colleagues' and then make it public. The governor's comments come as a stern warning to ensure that such incidents do not recur in a 'civilized society like Bengal'.
