The West Bengal Police have issued summonses to six event managers involved in the recent Lionel Messi event at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata, which descended into chaos and vandalism. The police are investigating 'gross mismanagement' and have arrested five spectators on charges of vandalism and assault on police personnel. According to sources, the event managers, including Laltu Das and Manali Bhattacharya, have been asked to appear for questioning at the commissionerate office on Tuesday. Das, who represented the event organiser Satadru Datta at a pre-event meeting, is expected to face questioning for allegedly violating standard operating procedures. The police are also probing the sale of unauthorised food and beverages inside the stadium, which was used as missiles during the rampage. Five spectators have been arrested so far, and the process of identifying and booking other suspects is underway. The Lionel Messi event, which was held on December 13, resulted in an estimated loss of over ₹2 crore in damages to the stadium. The police have booked the suspects under relevant sections of the law, including destruction of public property and obstruction of public servants.
