Prayagraj, India - In a spectacular display of devotion, millions of pilgrims flocked to the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on Saturday for the first 'snan' of the Magh Mela 2026. The holy dip, marking the beginning of the 45-day pilgrimage, took place on the occasion of Paush Purnima. As the sun rose over the Sarayu River in Ayodhya, devotees gathered in large numbers to perform the sacred bath, chanting hymns and offering prayers. At Prayagraj, the Triveni Sangam was abuzz with activity as devotees thronged the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. The Magh Mela is considered a deeply sacred occasion, with devotees seeking purification, spiritual upliftment, and divine blessings. Taking a holy dip during this period is believed to cleanse sins, purify the soul, and bring divine grace. The administration has made elaborate security arrangements to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for the pilgrims. Devotees expressed satisfaction with the arrangements, praising the facilities and security measures put in place. The Magh Mela, which takes place every year, is one of the largest pilgrimages in India. It transforms into the Kumbh Mela every fourth year and into the Maha Kumbh Mela every twelfth year, drawing millions of devout pilgrims to the grand event. With a steady inflow of pilgrims expected in the coming days, the authorities are prepared to handle the crowds. The Magh Mela will continue until Mahashivaratri, with six ritual snans taking place over the course of the fair.
