Modi, Al Nahyan Pledge Enhanced Cooperation in Defence, AI, Energy Amid Rising Tensions in West Asia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in extensive talks during the latter's three-hour visit to India, focusing on deepening cooperation in key areas such as defence, artificial intelligence, and energy security. The two leaders, who share a warm and close relationship, discussed ways to strengthen their countries' partnership in these sectors, despite rising tensions in West Asia. Both sides announced a range of agreements, including investment in Gujarat's Dholera Special Investment Region, a Strategic Defence Partnership, and a long-term LNG supply deal. They also agreed to collaborate on setting up a supercomputing cluster in India and exploring UAE investments in data centres. The two countries will work together to establish a supercomputing cluster, which will be part of India's AI Mission. The facility will be available for research, application development, and commercial use. In the defence sector, India and the UAE signed a Letter of Intent to work towards a Strategic Defence Partnership. The two sides aim to expand their defence ties and condemned terrorism, including cross-border terrorism. A 10-year LNG supply agreement between HPCL and ADNOC Gas was also welcomed, reinforcing the UAE's position as a key energy partner for India. The two countries also decided to explore a partnership in advanced nuclear technologies. The visit comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia and marks Sheikh Mohamed's third official visit to India as UAE President and his fifth visit to the country in the past decade. The two leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening their countries' partnership and working together to address regional challenges.
