At the 20th G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for a coordinated global response to combat the growing threat of the drug-terror nexus. This illicit network poses a significant challenge to public health, global security, and terrorism financing. PM Modi proposed the G20 Initiative on Countering the Drug-Terror Nexus to effectively tackle this global threat. By combining finance, governance, and security instruments, the initiative aims to weaken the drug-terror economy. India is working towards becoming a drug-free nation by 2047, with the Centre collaborating with local and international agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), to disrupt global drug trafficking. A recent example of this cooperation saw Indian agencies, along with their US and Australian counterparts, dismantle a massive global drug network in July. The operation involved a money launderer in the US, illegal drug factories in Australia, and call centers in India, highlighting the need for a concerted global effort to combat this menace.
