Modi Calls for Police Overhaul: Enhancing Professionalism, Sensitivity, and Responsiveness

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized the need to modernize policing practices in India, focusing on transforming public perception of the police, enhancing professionalism, sensitivity, and responsiveness, and deepening youth engagement. Addressing the 60th All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police in Raipur, Modi stressed that the police must prioritize citizen-centric service delivery. Modi highlighted the importance of strengthening urban policing, tourist police, and public awareness of newly enacted laws, such as the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita. He also called for greater use of technology, suggesting the integration of Artificial Intelligence with NATGRID to produce actionable intelligence. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for regular monitoring of banned outfits, holistic development in areas freed from Left-Wing Extremism, and innovation in island security and coastal policing. He also reiterated the importance of a 'Whole-of-Government' approach to tackling drug abuse. The three-day conference, themed 'Viksit Bharat: Security Dimensions,' brought together top police officers from across the country, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The event covered various topics, including the Vision 2047 road map for policing, counter-terrorism, and forensic-based investigation and prosecution. Modi also presented the President's Police Medals for Distinguished Service and honored the three best-performing cities under the Urban Policing Awards. Over 700 officers from various ranks participated in the conference, which aimed to promote innovation and improvement in policing practices.
