Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday virtually inaugurated a state-of-the-art maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility for commercial aircraft engines in Hyderabad. The facility, set up by French major Safran, will be operational by 2026 and is expected to play a significant role in India's growing aviation sector. The Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) facility, established with an initial investment of ₹1,300 crore, will cater to the LEAP (Leading Edge Aviation Propulsion) engines that power narrow-body Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. These engines are manufactured by CFM International, a joint venture between Safran Aircraft Engines and GE Aerospace. As one of the world's fastest-growing civil aviation markets, India has seen domestic carriers place orders for over 1,500 planes. The SAESI facility, designed to service up to 300 LEAP engines annually, will generate employment opportunities for over 1,000 skilled Indian technicians and engineers by 2035. The development of indigenous maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities is expected to reduce foreign exchange outflows, create high-value employment, and strengthen India's position as a global aviation hub. With this facility, India is poised to take a significant leap in its aviation sector, solidifying its position as a major player in the industry.
