Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant milestone in Indian rail travel on Saturday by launching the country's most advanced Vande Bharat sleeper train and four Amrit Bharat Express trains. The new train service promises to revolutionize long-distance inter-state travel with modern features and an affordable fare structure. In a public function in Malda, north Bengal, PM Modi flagged off the first Vande Bharat sleeper train between Howrah and Guwahati (Kamakhya). The four Amrit Bharat Express trains will connect the northern part of West Bengal to western and southern India, enhancing connectivity and convenience for passengers. The Amrit Bharat trains, operating on a push-pull configuration, boast modern passenger-friendly features, including enhanced seating, LED lighting, and air-spring suspension bogies for improved ride stability. The new train service will cater to long-distance travelers with a unique fare structure, offering a fixed minimum chargeable distance of 200 kilometers for Sleeper class and 50 kilometers for Second class. Under the new fare structure, basic fares will be ₹149 for journeys up to 200 kilometers in Sleeper class and ₹36 for 50 kilometers in Second class. Other charges, including reservation charge and superfast charge, will be levied separately. Notably, RAC seats will no longer be available in Sleeper class, while tickets for unreserved Second class will continue as per existing provisions. The introduction of the Amrit Bharat trains marks a significant step towards modernizing Indian rail travel, offering passengers a more comfortable and efficient experience.
