A dramatic police encounter unfolded in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen on Friday, leaving the accused in a six-year-old's alleged rape case injured in the leg. Salman, the accused, attempted to flee after snatching an inspector's gun, prompting police to return fire in self-defence. According to Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Gupta, Salman was being taken to the police station when he jumped out of the vehicle and fired at the police. The police responded, hitting the accused in the leg. The accused, who had been absconding for five days, was arrested in Gandhinagar on Friday. He is accused of raping a six-year-old girl on November 21 while she was playing in a neighbour's house. The girl is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhopal. Protests had erupted in Raisen earlier, with activists from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal participating in demonstrations. State Congress president Jitu Patwari visited AIIMS and met with the victim's family, criticising the BJP government's handling of the law and order situation in the state.
