Mumbai has become the country's first double-airport metropolis, following the inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) on Thursday. Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu hailed the occasion as a 'historic moment,' crediting the synergy between the government's 'double-engine' model for the success. Navi Mumbai International Airport, developed by the Adani Group, is strategically positioned to cater to the growing air traffic demand in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Western India. The state-of-the-art facility has set new benchmarks for capacity, efficiency, and passenger experience, with the first day seeing 48 flights connecting nine domestic destinations and serving over 4,000 passengers. The inauguration was celebrated by Union Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu and Gautam Adani, who expressed gratitude to the workers, farmers, and social workers who contributed to the project. Adani also acknowledged the significance of NMIA, noting that it was a moment of pride for many, especially those who had never flown before. With its opening, Mumbai has become a model for other cities in India, showcasing the country's growing aviation capabilities and its commitment to infrastructure development.
