India's ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has achieved a significant milestone with the breakthrough of its first mountain tunnel, Tunnel 5, in Palghar, Maharashtra. The tunnel, which is 1.48 kilometers long, marks the first major breakthrough in the series of seven mountain tunnels along the 508-kilometer high-speed rail corridor. The project, which is being constructed with international standards, will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to nearly two hours, revolutionizing inter-city travel. The bullet train will connect major cities, including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane, and Mumbai. The project has also seen significant progress in recent months, with the completion of the first underground tunnel between Thane and BKC, and the launch of a 130-meter steel bridge over National Highway-64 and Bharuch Dahej freight line in Gujarat. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor will feature 465 kilometers of viaducts, minimizing land disturbance and ensuring enhanced safety. With 326 kilometers of viaduct work already completed, and 17 out of 25 river bridges constructed, the project is making steady progress. The bullet train project is expected to boost business, tourism, and economic activity along the entire corridor, catalyzing regional development. With the breakthrough of Tunnel 5, India's high-speed rail project is one step closer to becoming a reality, transforming the country's transportation infrastructure and revolutionizing the way people travel.
