A historic British-era building housing Saraswati Shishu Mandir school in Nainital's Mallital area was ravaged by a fire on Tuesday evening. According to officials, no students or staff were injured in the blaze, which is believed to have been caused by a short circuit. The fire broke out around 7:30 pm, prompting a rapid response from the local fire department. Firefighters from Nainital, Bhimtal, and Bhawali battled the blaze, which spread quickly through the wooden structure. Eyewitnesses stated that the building, owned by Alok Shah, housed the school, a tent house, and a hotel. The fire started on the top floor and rapidly spread throughout the building. A team from the State Disaster Response Force safely evacuated the school principal's family, who lived in the building. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami monitored the situation through a video call, and authorities ensured that the fire was brought under control. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials believe that a short circuit may have been the culprit. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
