Navneet Sehgal Steps Down as Prasar Bharati Chairman Amid Resignation Acceptance

New Delhi: In a recent development, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has formally accepted the resignation of Navneet Kumar Sehgal as Chairman of Prasar Bharati, the country's public broadcaster. Sehgal, a retired IAS officer from the 1988 batch of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, took over the role on March 16, this year. A letter issued by the ministry on Wednesday confirmed that his resignation, submitted on December 2, has been accepted. As per the Prasar Bharati Act of 1990, the government has formally relieved Sehgal from his duties with immediate effect. Sehgal, who boasts over 35 years of experience in the government sector, has previously held key positions at the central and Uttar Pradesh state levels. Prior to his retirement in July 2023, he served as the additional chief secretary to the government of Uttar Pradesh. His tenure saw significant milestones, including the construction of the Agra–Lucknow Expressway and the implementation of various tourism projects. The acceptance letter, seen by HT, was copied to senior officials, including the CEO of the Prasar Bharati Board, the principal secretary to the vice president, and other key personnel in the ministry. With Sehgal's resignation, the Prasar Bharati Board will now undergo a transition period, paving the way for a new Chairman to take the reins.
