Tamil Nadu's opposition alliance, National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has begun seat-sharing talks ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who arrived in Chennai as the BJP's election-in-charge, led the discussions with AIADMK General Secretary E. Palaniswami. The parties have exchanged lists of preferred constituencies but have yet to finalize seat numbers. The talks come as the ruling DMK, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, faces growing opposition. The BJP and AIADMK have been working together to unseat the DMK government, with a focus on development and good governance. In the 2021 assembly elections, AIADMK contested in 179 seats, offering 23 to the Pattali Makkal Katchi and 20 to the BJP. This time around, AIADMK has reportedly offered a higher number of seats to the BJP, but the party is seeking more representation. The NDA is banking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership to secure a sweeping victory in 2026. Goyal said the alliance is committed to providing a better future for Tamil Nadu's people, focusing on development, agriculture, and small businesses. The outcome of the seat-sharing talks will be crucial in determining the NDA's chances in the upcoming elections. With the DMK's grip on power weakening, the opposition alliance is eyeing a historic win in Tamil Nadu.
