Nitish Kumar's New Cabinet Takes Shape: 3 Women, 1 Muslim Face Among 26 Ministers Sworn In

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's new cabinet is taking shape after he was sworn in for the 10th time on Thursday, along with 26 other ministers. The portfolios for these ministers will be announced on Friday, according to a JD(U) leader. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-led cabinet includes Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Samrat Choudhury and Vijay Kumar Sinha, who are expected to retain their positions as deputy chief ministers. A total of 24 ministers were sworn in in batches of six, including eight from the Janata Dal (United), 14 from the BJP, two from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and one each from the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha. Notably, the cabinet has three women ministers: Leshi Singh from JD(U), and newcomers Shreyashi Singh and Rama Nishad from BJP. Zama Khan, a JD(U) leader, is the sole Muslim face in the cabinet. The council of ministers has a mix of representatives from various castes, including eight ministers from upper castes, 13 ministers from Other Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes, and five Dalits. The cabinet will be completed with the addition of nine more ministers, bringing the total to 36 as mandated by the constitution. The portfolios will be announced on Friday, giving a clearer picture of the responsibilities and roles within the new cabinet.
