Bihar is on the cusp of a new government, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar set to take oath for a record 10th time on Thursday at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. As the state's longest-serving chief minister, Kumar is poised to reclaim the top spot. Meanwhile, speculation is rife about the deputy chief minister's post, with several names in contention. JD(U) has chosen Nitish Kumar as the leader of the NDA legislature party, paving the way for a new cabinet. Twenty ministers are expected to take oath alongside him. The deputy chief minister's post is a key position, with several contenders vying for the spot. Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, who served as Nitish Kumar's deputies in the previous regime, are again being considered for the coveted post. Chaudhary was chosen as the BJP legislature party leader on Wednesday, while Sinha was picked as the deputy leader. Mangal Pandey of the BJP is also in the running. Additionally, Chirag Paswan, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Lok Sabha MP, is reportedly eyeing the deputy chief minister's post. However, his demands were resisted by the BJP and JD(U). The NDA alliance group held internal consultations on Tuesday to discuss ministerial roles and the structure of the new government in Bihar. The Lok Janshakti Party, with 19 MLAs, is seen as a key mobiliser of Dalit votes. As the new government takes shape, the focus is on who will be appointed to the key positions. With Nitish Kumar set to reclaim the top spot, the deputy chief minister's post remains a crucial decision that will shape the future of Bihar's government.
