Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a significant visit to the under-construction Virat Ramayan Temple in East Champaran district, witnessing the installation of a massive 33-foot Shiva Lingam. Weighing 210 metric tonnes, the giant stone structure was crafted in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, and transported to Kalyanpur on a specially designed 96-wheeled trailer. The installation process drew a large crowd of devotees, who gathered to offer prayers. According to Sayan Kunal, a member of the Bihar State Religious Trust Council, the Shiva Lingam is not only the world's largest but also comprises 1008 smaller Shiva Lingams. Devotees who worship this single structure will supposedly gain spiritual merit equivalent to worshipping 1008 individual Shiva Lingams. The construction of the temple, which is being monitored by the Mahavir Mandir Trust team from Patna, is expected to be completed by 2030. The Virat Ramayan Temple will stand at an impressive 270 feet tall, with 18 towers and 22 smaller temples dedicated to various deities. The Shiva Lingam took 45 days to reach Motihari, passing through multiple states. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister launched several development projects in West Champaran district, including the Women ITI and the Centre of Excellence, as part of his ongoing Samridhi Yatra.
