In a significant crackdown on the illicit ganja trade, the Noida Sector-113 Police have arrested three men, including the mastermind, for allegedly delivering marijuana disguised as e-commerce packages. The gang used popular delivery apps like Porter and courier services to ship the contraband, while customers paid via UPI apps like PayTM. According to the police, the operation involved targeted customer acquisition, with gang members approaching potential buyers near colleges and corporate offices. The transaction was conducted entirely online, with customers placing orders and sharing delivery locations through delivery apps. To avoid detection, the gang used a sophisticated packaging technique, mimicking e-commerce companies like Amazon. The ganja was carefully packaged to appear indistinguishable from legitimate goods, complete with fake bills for legal goods. The mastermind, Yogendra Pratap Singh, had previously worked at a private company in Noida, where he observed a demand for ganja. He decided to initiate the supply business himself, eventually building an extensive network in the NCR region. Singh has been arrested on similar charges before but was on bail. The seized ganja, weighing 10.1 kilograms, included high-quality strains sold under brand names like OG, Mango, and Shillong. The estimated price of the ganja on the black market is around ₹30 lakh. The police investigation revealed that Singh sourced the marijuana from various places, including Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Nepal, and Shillong in Meghalaya. The three accused have been sent to jail, and further investigation is underway to trace other individuals linked to the network. This ganja trafficking ring was operating in the shadows, using digital platforms to evade detection. The bust highlights the need for effective measures to prevent the misuse of online services for illicit activities.
